Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of high-quality care intervention on postoperative pain, respiratory function, and quality of life in patients with malignant pleural effusion (MPE).

Methods: We randomly assigned 114 patients with MPE admitted to our hospital from August 2018 to October 2019 to receive routine care (55 cases, group A) or to receive high-quality care based on routine care (59 cases, group B). Then we compared between the two groups in terms of postoperative pain, respiratory function, negative emotions, and quality of life of patients.

Results: The markers for respiratory function, postoperative pain intensity, and scores of negative emotions were in better situations in group B than in group A (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was lower in group B than in group A (P<0.05). The quality of life of patients was higher in group B than in group A (P<0.05).

Conclusion: High-quality care interventions can relieve postoperative pain and improve the respiratory function and quality of life in patients with MPE.
