Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of budesonide on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and investigate the action mechanism.

Methods: A total of 80 COPD patients were equally and randomly divided into the experiment group and the control group. Patients in the control group and the experiment group underwent regular treatment method for COPD, while those in the experiment group received the aerosol inhalation of budesonide suspension for two weeks. Before and after treatment, all patients participated in the arterial blood gas analysis, hemorheology and variations in serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-8 (IL-8), and with the result of examination, statistical analysis was performed.

Results: In comparison with the control group, significant improvement was seen in the results of arterial blood gas analysis and hemorheology in the experiment group (p<0.05), and the levels of TNF-α and IL-8 in serum were significantly decreased (p<0.05).

Conclusion: Budesonide can be used in the treatment of COPD through the anti-inflammation and anti-oxidation mechanisms with the definite efficacy, and is worthy of being promoted in clinical practice.
